Rehearsals on the End of War

Two ancient Greek tragedies served as the starting points for the piece: Antigone by Sophocles, a play that begins one day after a war, and The Phoenician Women by Euripides, which chronicles what happened during the war in Thebes. When developing the show, the creators focused on the time immediately following a war: the first moments of peace, which led them to explore the contemporary dimension of the Theban myth. How does this myth speak to us today? How do we see ourselves reflected in it?

Today, 80 years after the end of the Second World War, as we listen to the echoes of bombs exploding in a neighbouring country and follow reports of armed conflicts raging around the world, we ask ourselves ‘What will the first day of peace be like?’ We long for it, but we fear it might not be a happy day.

You’re invited to join us on a journey to the heart of an ancient myth and engage with the questions it raises.
